My husband Larry and I moved from Colorado to Tucson six years ago this August. We LOVE IT HERE! While I LOVE Colorado too, as I am a native, we have totally assimilated into the culture of “The Old Pueblo.” And this is especially true since I established my business a little over a year and a half ago.
Upon our arrival, Larry and I spent a lot of time checking out all the local restaurants. Here are a few of our favorites.
FAVORITE RESTAURANTS IN TUCSON:
The Most Sentimental: Hacienda del Sol
WHY: Larry brought me to Tucson over 20 years ago from Denver to celebrate my birthday (which is in February). We stayed at Hacienda Del Sol. We carried a piece of the resort back with us to Colorado by mimicking the outdoor fireplace in our custom mountain home. After moving to Tucson, we did the same thing by mimicking the same fireplace in our outdoor living area here!
As a personal chef, I spend a lot of time in grocery stores. I love it! Here are a few of the many places that I hang out and enjoy doing business!
FAVORITE PLACES I GROCERY SHOP IN TUCSON:
My Local BASHAS at Golder Ranch & Oracle
WHY: The Meat Department takes really great care of me with special orders! I can also do my business banking!
My Local FRY’s at First and Oracle
WHY: Convenient & great prices
The FRY’s at Lambert Lane & La Canada
WHY: The florist does an awesome job at custom requests and the prices are very reasonable!
Favorite Place to buy Produce and Seafood: Sprouts
WHY: Fresh & reasonably priced. Best seafood (in my opinion). Great bulk department and a great selection of dried herbs and spices!
Favorite Splurge: AJ’s
WHY: Items you can’t find anyplace else; Foie Gras Pate is awesome! Specialty infused olive oils – (blood orange and Meyer Lemon) are my favorites.
As a personal chef, I don’t have a storefront. As a result, I depend on places to meet people and do business. Here are a few of my FAVORITE PLACES TO DO BUSINESS IN TUCSON:
Any Starbucks
WHY: Great coffee, comfortable ambiance, and a tolerance for independent business people, like myself, to do business!
Others: Paradise Bakery, AJ’s Patio
A FEW FAVORITE NON-PROFITS IN TUCSON
I personally participate in a few non-profit organizations. Here are a few (not all) of my favorites:
Interfaith Community Services (ICS)
This organization reaches out to families, seniors, & individuals throughout Pima County. I volunteer as someone who grocery shops for a shut-in senior on a weekly basis. I have also been a substitute driver for mobile meals that reach out to a number of individuals. I personally support this organization. Please find out more about them. They do a great job in our community.
Oro Valley Rotary Club
This organization reaches out both locally and internationally. I had no idea, until I joined this group, how much impact they have. A major contributor to this organization is The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Please check out their website.
Boys and Girls Club of Tucson
My husband and I have been enjoying “THE EVENT” ever since we came to Tucson six years ago. It was a great way to get to know and peruse all of the great restaurants here in Tucson. Plus, we have been contributing to a great cause!
New Beginnings
I personally have donated personal effects plus have participated in their poinsettia sales over the past three years.
I have contributed to a number of organizations to help them raise money via silent auctions. It is my pleasure to help my community!
